Week 26 & 27: G6 #biz + #life
We are in the thick of Love Island and the FIFA World Cup around this house. The house is divided. Some of us want to watch soccer all over Seattle and whoop it up. Some of us want to make sure we are home in time for the new episode of Love Island to drop. BOTH equally important to different people in the house of g6. Hence, the division, but David and I made time to hang.
I feel like it was a heavy week. I know something major is coming for our family, so I'm doing my best to balance life and work. Most importantly, making sure I see this guy's face as he's on his World Cup Sabbatical. I tease him about the World Cup, but it is pretty awesome that he gets to experience this in Seattle. He is having the time of his life.
I will always opt out of soccer festivities to watch reality TV. Love Island for me and the kids. All the kids are on the couch watching together (except H, but she's watching from her house). We all come together to discuss.
It's been a strong work topic, too. Berger, Nalani, Milla, and our girls are all heavily invested in Love Island. We are rooting for Aniya and Carl and Bryce and Trinity - plot twist because we did not think we'd be so fond of Bryce!
Speaking of love…Ben flew into Seattle on July 3rd. July 5th, 2026, he proposed to Isabelle. A special moment shared by all of us. Ben's mom, brother, Grandpa Eddie, and of course, all of g6 family + Maleah were there to share in this moment. OH, it was also a semi-final game - Brazil and Argentina? I can't remember, but it was delayed due to thunderstorms in Mexico City, so timing was in the middle of an important game, but nonetheless, Eddie and David (and Ben) shared in the special occasion. It was a great end to a great time with Isabelle. She and Ben went home on July 7th as fiancés. Pretty special! We are so happy for what is to come as they plan their nuptials.
The famous question is when? We know it'll be after she graduates. We are already sharing ideas, and Isabelle is definitely letting us know what she'd like. I expected no less from our Bride. The uncertainty of where they'll land after graduation is not a deterrent for them; they are ready to start their lives, so I anticipate it'll be very soon after she gets that degree!
This whole journey with her PhD program has felt long…we miss her so much, but in the same breath, it feels like 2028 will be here in no time.
I've learned to not plan every moment and to live every moment. My biggest takeaway from raising adults is to allow them their space to grow, learn, explore, and cherish their lives. David and I feel grateful to be a part of their journey of life. It is the most gratifying experience to watch them live their best life and connect with them along the way. We feel lucky they let us in as much as they do in their lives.
